Short answer
Send your tiling quote through Sign PDF before the job, including the area, the tile size, who supplies the tiles, the wastage allowance, the substrate preparation and the grout colour. Large-format and patterned tiles also deserve a signed layout approval, so the client agrees where the cuts fall before the first tile is fixed.

What a tiling quote needs to cover
Tiling quotes go wrong in three places: the tiles the client bought, the wall or floor you are tiling onto, and where the cuts land. A quote that settles those three, and that the client signs, keeps the job about tiling.
- Area in square metres and tile size, because large formats cost more to lay
- Who supplies tiles, adhesive, grout, trims and levelling clips
- Wastage allowance: usually 10%, more for diagonal or herringbone
- Substrate: tile backer board, tanking, levelling compound, removal of old tiles
- Grout colour and trim finish
- What happens if the client's tiles arrive damaged or short
Client-supplied tiles
Many clients buy their own tiles and then expect you to make up for a short order or a batch with a different shade. Say in the quote that tiles should be checked for batch number and damage on delivery, that you will lay what is supplied, and that waiting for more tiles is a return visit at a set price.
Layout approvals
On a feature wall or a large-format floor, the client cares where the cuts land. Mark up a simple layout, as a sketch or a photo of the dry-laid tiles, and send it for approval. Sign PDF takes photos as well as PDFs and puts the signature box on the page. Once it is signed, a client who would have preferred a full tile at the door has nothing to argue with.
Change orders work the same way: a new grout colour or a feature strip added halfway is a short document signed before you fix it.
Pricing and where Sign PDF stops
A tiler who quotes a couple of bathrooms a month is fine on Light, at $5 a month for 2 documents. If you sign layout approvals and change orders as well as quotes, Full at $10 a month for unlimited documents is better value.
We do not measure, estimate, order materials, invoice or take payments. We get the paperwork signed and sealed with a certificate of who signed, when and from which device.
Questions people ask
How much wastage should a tiling quote allow?
Ten percent is common for straight lay, and more for diagonal or herringbone patterns. Put the figure in the quote so the client orders enough.
Can a client sign a layout photo?
Yes. Upload a JPG or PNG of the dry-laid tiles or a marked-up sketch, and Sign PDF adds a signature box.
Who is responsible if client-supplied tiles are short?
Say in the quote that the client must check quantity and batch on delivery, and price return visits for waiting on more tiles.
Do clients need to install anything?
No. They sign in the browser on their phone after confirming a code from their email.
Is a signed tiling quote legally binding?
For an ordinary domestic job, a signed quote with clear scope and price usually works as a contract, and e-signatures are recognised in the US, UK and EU. This is not legal advice.
Can both homeowners sign?
Yes. Add both as signers and each gets their own signature and date box.
