Short answer

Quote or estimate: say which
Customers treat any number you give them as the price. If you mean an estimate, write "estimate" at the top and say what could change it: what is behind the tiles, the state of the pipework, access under the floor. If it is a fixed-price quote, say what it covers and what it does not. A signed plumbing quote that is clear on this point heads off most of the arguments plumbers have about money.
For repair work, include a line for the call-out or diagnostic charge, and an approval limit: "repairs up to $250 carried out on the visit; above that, a written quote first".
Bathroom installation contracts
A bathroom refit usually involves more than one trade and a client who has bought the suite themselves. The contract should say who supplies what, who is responsible if a client-supplied basin arrives cracked, and the order of trades.
- Supply: what you provide, what the client provides, and a check-on-delivery clause
- Strip-out and waste disposal
- Hidden problems under the floor or behind walls, with unit rates
- Which trades are yours and which are "by others" (tiling, electrics, plastering)
- Deposit, stage payments and the completion sign-off
- Water off times, and the toilet left working overnight where possible
Gas Safe, building regs and what you hand over
In the UK, boiler work must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and the installer notifies building control, usually through the Gas Safe scheme, which then sends the homeowner a compliance certificate. In the US, permits and inspections come from the local building department. None of that is signed through us. Landlords and agents approving work
A tenant calls you about a leak, but the landlord pays. Send the quote to the landlord or letting agent while you are at the property; they approve on their phone, and you have a signed authority before you order parts. Add the tenant as a signer only if you need their consent for access.

Do you issue Gas Safe certificates?
